Since the release of AOE’s first two online Studio Classes, Printmaking and Ceramics, the response has been nothing short of spectacular! It’s clear art teachers love to get “down and dirty” while learning new concepts to teach in the art room. The biggest question we’ve received is “Which studio class is next?”
Today we are excited to announce another brand new AOE Studio Class — a topic that is so important – Drawing!
Drawing is a fundamental part of every art curriculum, but it has its pitfalls too. Students come with different backgrounds, aptitudes, and interests. Perceived drawing skills can build or break student confidence. Because of this, drawing can be one of the most rewarding and frustrating things to teach.
This course will address the most common challenges art teachers face when instructing various drawing skills, from making observational drawing more interesting (let’s go beyond the fruit bowl!) to breaking down complex concepts like perspective. This is a drawing class designed just for the specific needs of the art educator!
You will walk away with a fresh perspective and the inspiration to redesign and scaffold your drawing curriculum. You’ll learn new strategies to teach the “boring” elements and principles of design. Best of all, you will get to try them all out as you document your own drawing process throughout the creation of a teacher showcase series and final portfolio.
All AOE Studio courses are taught by art educators experienced in a wide variety of drawing techniques. All of the demonstrations are given by experts in the field of art education. This is a “teacher to teacher” class where you won’t need to work to make connections to the classroom or feel isolated. This is a studio class JUST for art teachers.

- Each assignment will involve research and new learning through original, video-based demonstrations.
- Each assignment will involve a classroom connection, helping you bring the various mediums into your own art room.
- Each assignment will also involve you CREATING something and documenting your process for both personal and educational use in the classroom.
Trade in your textbook for a list of art supplies as you create, and earn Professional Development or Graduate credit in an online studio setting!

Enrollment for this 3 – credit studio graduate class is open NOW, and the class will run for the first time December 1 – January 31st. The class will run again from January 1st – February 29th.
