Don Masse

Hi there. My name is Don Masse. My earliest art-related memory is getting in trouble for drawing on one of the mint green walls in our family room with a bright red crayon. Since then, my love for the language of visual art has never waned. It took me to Tyler School of Art for my B.F.A. and then down to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I earned my M.F.A. in studio art from LSU in 1997. From there, I eventually wound up in San Diego county, where I have taught children, big and small, for the past 17 years.

I currently teach at Zamorano Fine Arts Academy, a public elementary school with a visual arts focus. I write about my art room experiences on my blog, www.shinebritezamorano.com. I am a contributing editor for Arts & Activities magazine, where I share ways to incorporate living artists into the elementary art curriculum.

When I am not in the classroom, you can often find me with a piece of chalk or charcoal in my hand, drawing out in the street or in the safety of my own living room. I also love to get out and explore the country with my wonderful wife, two kids, and our vintage trailer, Cecil.
