About the Author

Joel Scholten

My name is Joel Scholten, and I teach elementary art in Elkhorn, Nebraska. I received a bachelor’s in Art Education from Northwestern College in Iowa in 2007, and a master’s in Education with an Emphasis in Reading and Literacy from Concordia College in Nebraska. In my classroom, I want my students to experience art in real and deeply personal ways. I strive to introduce my students to diverse contemporary artists and provide them with opportunities to explore how art can tell a story, send a message, and change the world!

Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my wife and two children. Our time is usually spent laughing and singing together. I am an encaustic painter and also enjoy fixing up the house. I enjoy weightlifting, hiking, canoeing, and getting hyped up for each new adventure.
