In this course, students will have the opportunity to explore the rich history and contemporary practices surrounding artist books while gaining hands-on experience with a wide array of bookbinding techniques. From traditional methods such as saddle stitching, Coptic binding, and Japanese stab binding to more modern approaches like perfect binding and accordion folds, students will engage in creating structures suitable for various artistic and practical applications. The course will cover how to select and implement the appropriate materials, tools, and techniques for different types of books, including sketchbooks, portfolios, journals, and unique artist books.

Students will learn how these diverse bookbinding techniques can enhance the presentation of their work, providing them with skills to create professional, visually compelling, and durable books. Additionally, participants will explore ways to integrate book arts into classrooms, encouraging creativity and expression in students of all ages.
