Description

Students will use vocabulary, fluency, and composition literacy skills to create an artwork in the style of Barbara Kruger. They will develop a phrase celebrating positivity and add it to a photograph that represents their phrase and display their art in a meaningful place.

  • iPads, camera phones, digital cameras
  • 8 ½” x 11” white copy paper
  • Red construction paper cut into 1” x 9” strips
  • White construction paper cut into 1” x 9” strips
  • Red markers
  • White paint markers (or white acrylic paint)
  • White glue

Steps

Take Photo

Take a B/W photo in the classroom that supports the meaning of the phrase chosen. Take a few photos to make sure the image isn’t blurry, isn’t too dark, and other people can understand it. Consider how simple props may help to create meaning.
