Lesson Plan

Description

Students will design and engineer a sculpture that has moving parts. They will use cardboard and straws to construct a successful kinetic sculpture.

Students will research kinetic sculptures and brainstorm possible designs for engineering their own sculpture.

Students will choose from available materials to construct a kinetic sculpture.

Students will plan and design the sculpture, refining their idea at each step.

Students will experiment with different materials and refine their design based on the construction process.

Students will complete a functioning kinetic sculpture.

Teaching Strategies

  • Introduce kinetic sculpture.
  • Demonstrate how to translate sketchbook design to the cardboard for cutting out the components.
  • Demonstrate how to construct a sculpture using glue guns and cardboard components.
