Description

Students will be introduced to abstract artists and recognize their “signature mark”—marks created on the artwork that help viewers identify the artist just by looking at the work. Students will experiment with unique ways of creating a mark.

  • Introduce abstract artists and their signature marks with students.
  • Discuss with students the components of an abstract work of art that communicate to the viewer (such as the mark, composition, size, color, repetition, and style).

  • Guide students as they review and respond to each others’ work based on discussed components and make revisions as necessary.
