Cubist Animals

Description

Students will explore the Cubist movement by creating their own Cubist-like image of an animal, using multiple views of the same animal in one drawing. They will use a marker-bleed technique to add a painterly effect to the work.

Students will study an animal of choice as their subject matter.

Students will create a drawing using multiple views of the same animal.

Students will use a marker wash for added color and value.

Students will work through their piece using various materials and new approaches.

Students will discuss Cubism and its role in changing people’s view of art.

Teaching Strategies

  • Demonstrate drawing the profile image of an animal.
  • Show adding an additional view of the animal to blend with the profile image.
  • Explain how to vary the thickness of line.
  • Teach the marker-bleed technique.
  • Facilitate a discussion on Cubism and its role in changing people’s view of art.
