Lesson Plan

Description

Students will use materials to design and engineer a 3D car that will roll down a ramp. Students will then decorate their car to turn it into an art car.

Students will use new materials to design and customize a 3D car that can roll.

Students will troubleshoot and refine their design until they have a functioning car.

Students will experiment with different ways to use the materials to make and decorate their cars.

Students will evaluate the success of the car based on its functionality.

Teaching Strategies

  • Facilitate discussion on artists who have designed cars.
  • Introduce materials, and demonstrate how to build a simple car using the available tools.
  • Demonstrate how to build an axle (see resource).
  • Lead a discussion on the successes and challenges of the cars based on their mobility.
