Canvas mats
Newsprint paper or wax paper (same size as clay)
Pencils & erasers
Clay tools: needle tool and rolling pin
Black underglaze, paintbrushes, & water cup
Cafeteria-type trays & paper towels

Steps

Review Greek Art & Use Template to Create Shape

Review ancient Greek art. Select a template for the slab pottery vessel. Place a slab of red clay on a paper towel on a tray. Lay the template on top of the clay slab. Gently press the template into the clay. Cut around the template with a needle tool. Smooth the edges.
