Description

Students will explore the relationship between pattern and texture by creating a portrait of a sleeping pet drawn from imagination. They will use construction paper to make a woven bed for their pet to sleep on and crayon rubbing over texture plates to add interest to their pet.

Steps

Create Paper Warp & Strips

Facilitate a classroom discussion about the use of patterns in the world around us as well as in art. Create the paper warp using a ruler, pencil, and scissors. Create thick paper strips for easier weaving or make thinner strips for an added challenge.
