Description
Students will reflect on how art influences perception and understanding of human experiences. Students will create a fictional portrait in graphite using collaged facial features to symbolically represent challenges or adversity.

Teaching Strategies
- Introduce collage and review Romare Bearden and other collage artists.
- Facilitate a discussion on how visual images can communicate personality, stereotypes, and experience.
- Guide students in drawing using a grid method.
- Support a paired discussion of in-progress artworks and provide feedback.
