Students will investigate various printmaking materials. Students will learn about printmaking artist Favianna Rodriguez and her use of mixed-media printing processes to send a message. Students will create a series of prints by combining at least two printmaking processes.

- 5" x 7" mixed-media or printmaking paper
- 2" x 3" Printmaking foam pieces
- Printmaking ink, acrylic, or tempera paint
- Oil pastels
- Stamping objects (lids, stamps, blocks, etc)
- Ink/paint tray or plate
- Brayer

Steps
Introduce Favianna Rodriguez and Brainstorm Messages
Learn about the artist, Favianna Rodriguez.
Speculate about her processes, and discuss how her visual imagery conveys messages.
Begin brainstorming possible theme/message ideas on the “Brainstorming Bigger Issues” writing support or in a sketchbook.
