Lesson Objectives

Students will identify examples of radial symmetry.

Students will create a unified piece of art using the same colors and designs throughout.

Students will explore shapes and designs within radial symmetric stained glass.

Students will discuss the impact and beauty of rose windows in architecture.

Teaching Strategies

  • Introduce the differences between asymmetry, bilateral symmetry, and radial symmetry.
  • Show examples of rose windows and lead a discussion of how stained glass windows create visual beauty or tell a narrative.
  • Demonstrate how to draw a circle with eight equal segments using a compass.
  • Teach how to create a design triangle to flip back and forth to create radial symmetry in the faux stained glass window.
