Description

In this lesson, students will be reintroduced to the idea of relief sculpture and form. With construction paper as their primary canvas, students will create a sense of depth with their self-portrait as the subject matter.

  • 9” x 12” multi-colored construction paper
  • 8.5” x 11” photo of each student in profile
  • X-Acto knives and self-healing matts
  • Pencils abd rulers
  • Light box or windows
  • French curves
  • Cardboard strips (1”, .5”, .25”)
  • Glue

Steps

Create Border

Create a ½-inch border around the edge of the white paper with a ruler and pencil. Outline the profile on the photo with a black marker. Trace the profile onto the paper using a pencil, placing the photo behind the white paper.
