Students will gather found objects that represent their location and then collaboratively brainstorm ways that the items could be used in a group collage that sends a message about an important aspect of local life.

Students will research El Anatsui and notice his use of discarded materials to send a visual message.
Students will collect discarded items to collage and discuss the relationship of the items to place.
Students will experiment with materials, sketch, and select a design.
Teaching Strategies
- Introduce students to El Anatsui, focusing on discarded materials and the message sent about location.
- Direct students to collect discarded items and think about the relationship between place and the items.
- Ask students to experiment with materials, make sketches, and select a final design.
