Lesson Plan

Description

Students will explore pamphlet binding books by creating their own two-hole book using recycled paper bags. They will design their own unique covers using paint and various texture tools.

Students will explore the use of recycled materials in artmaking.

Students will demonstrate proper use of bookbinding tools and vocabulary.

Students will accurately punch holes and sew a 2-hole pamphlet.

Teaching Strategies

  • Introduce students to bookmaking showing the history of the pamphlet.
  • Guide discussion about the use of books and what can be used to create them.
  • Facilitate texture exploration as students design and paint their covers.
  • Demonstrate how to accurately fold paper with bone folders and punch holes safely.
  • Show how to bind the book and tie a bow.
