Description

Students will create a unique text block book with a decorative cover featuring the link stitch while being given the freedom to explore and create without specific guidelines except for the stitch.

Students will cut or rip their own paper to form a unique text block.

Students will accurately sew an exposed spine link stitch book.

Students will demonstrate proper and safe use of bookbinding tools.

  • Heavy books or bricks
  • Rulers, pencils, glue, & brushes
  • Awls & hole templates
  • Linen thread, curved needles, & wax

Steps

Prepare Text Block

Select paper. Trim using an X-ACTO knife or ripping for deckled edges. Fold at least 4 signatures using a bone folder with 4-6 folios (# of folios depends on the thickness of paper). Leave under a weight overnight.
