Students will like the freedom to create their own slab box. This project allows students to learn the same concepts but make some personal decisions regarding shape, size, design, and color. Incorporate social studies by reviewing how different cultures have used pottery in history. Discuss the science of glazes and the firing process.
Tip: Have students label their templates (Base, sides, lid) When they measure the lid, they need to make it ¼ larger on each side. (¼ is the thickness of the slabs)
How are you using slab construction in the art room?
