This lesson is the perfect way to begin a new school year or semester. It allows students to focus on the fundamentals of drawing without becoming overwhelmed. Students get the chance to practice “learning to see” by concentrating on the contour lines of their shoes. Ian Sklarsky is a great artist to show to communicate this idea. In addition, this video from The Virtual Instructor has a great demo to show your students.
Using a personal item and letting them take their shoes off in class creates a great hook for your students. Just be warned—you may want to have an air freshener spray nearby!
