Discovering who we are and becoming unique individuals is one of the most interesting and hardest parts of being human. Our students can have a difficult time navigating these confusing and uncomfortable situations. This lesson focuses on empowerment and inspiring others with words. This can be a powerful reflective tool for your students, and can work as a mechanism to breech the sensitive subject of bullying. After we did this lesson, my sixth graders showed much more compassion for each other. For an even bigger impact, team up with the guidance counselor and other staff members to make this lesson part of a cross-curricular unit.
