This lesson is a fantastic tie-in to Medieval studies. Students are invested right away because they are designing one of their own initials. Using gold, silver or sparkle Scratchboard really makes these shine. I find it helpful to provide students with copies of traditional Medieval design motifs to get them started. You can do a simple google search or draw some yourself and make copies. Once finished, it’s fun to use these to spell out different phrases for a hallway display!
