Intermediate Acrylic Techniques

3 PD Hours

  • 1 Implement various acrylic painting approaches to prepare students for intermediate and advanced artworks.

  • 2 Investigate and experiment with different tools, materials, and techniques to achieve the desired outcome with acrylic paint.

  • 3 Engage student autonomy and self-expression through acrylic painting methods and materials.

As a gateway to oil paint or more experiential processes, acrylic paint has versatility and ease of use that are unmatched in the secondary art room. In this PRO Pack, facilitator Katie Gaff will highlight a wide range of strategies and techniques for teaching acrylic painting. From reviewing the basics to preparing for more advanced artworks, Katie provides different approaches to exploring this adaptable medium.

Note: Acrylic paints are generally safe to use. However, it’s always a good idea to read the label. Some hues may contain toxic ingredients like heavy metals, especially if you purchase higher-quality paints. These ingredients can be harmful if ingested. Key ingredients to avoid include cadmium, cobalt, chromium, and lead. These paints will come with a warning label. To learn more about the safety of acrylic paints, check out this resource.
