Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction

Our MEd degree is a 33-credit graduate-level program designed for teachers looking to improve their professional practice and those interested in applying their art education background in specialized or leadership roles.

Your academic advisor will help you plan your perfect timeline and curricular path, with most students completing their degree in 2–3 years. Learn at your own pace, complete coursework on your schedule, and engage with a vibrant community of art teachers through weekly discussion boards and collaboration.

  • Synthesize art content knowledge to construct differentiated and engaging learning experiences based on student cognitive, social, and individualized development.
  • Design long-range planning and curriculum development, including implementation and evaluation of curriculum aligned to standards, benchmarks, and student needs.
  • Create learning experiences that are informed by past and present education methods, utilize a variety of instructional strategies to foster 21st-century skills, and enrich learning with educational technology.
  • Create positive learning environments that encourage active engagement in learning, positive social interaction, digital fluency, self-motivation, and equitable learning experiences for all students.
  • Effectively advocate with others in the field and build relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Serve as a reflective practitioner effectively using assessment strategies to refine and redefine working assumptions, values, and practice in order to better meet the needs of all learners.

Curriculum

When pursuing a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, you’ll take 15 credits of core courses, then choose a specialization and complete 12 credits focused on that area. It’s a flexible path designed around your goals.
