Angela Matsuoka

K-12 Curriculum Designer

Hello! My name is Angela Matsuoka, and I am honored to be AOEU’s K-12 Curriculum Designer. Prior to joining the AOEU family, I served as the Fine Arts Consultant with the Iowa Department of Education for five years. In my state-level role, I led our statewide arts standards adoption process in 2017, facilitated our statewide arts leadership team, and created professional development and resources for K-12 dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts education.

At the national level, I served on the Executive Committee for the State Education Agency Directors for Arts Education (SEADAE) from 2019-2021 and co-authored a white paper, “STEAM and the Role of Arts in STEM,” in 2020.

I have over ten years of visual arts teaching experience and have taught at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels in Iowa and Washington, D.C. I earned my BA in Studio Art from Grinnell College and my MA from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

In my free time, I love traveling (favorite places include the North Shore of Oahu, the Amalfi Coast in Italy, the northern California coast, and my hometown of Seattle), reading, hiking, yoga, and adventuring every day with my husband and our two kids.
