Andrea Wlodarczyk

Hi there, I’m Andrea! I learned about AOEU back when it was called AOE, so I’ve been an enthusiastic follower for some years now. I recall being so delighted to find a resource specifically speaking to art educators and thinking, “finally!” Joining the writing team and having the opportunity to support our community the way I was supported is a lovely full-circle experience that I am so grateful for.

This is my 16th year as an art educator after teaching on the east to west coasts. I am currently teaching at the school of my dreams—the incredible High Tech Middle in southern California, which is founded on project-based learning principles. It’s a dynamic environment that allows me to use the full range of my expertise to support the creation of meaningful work, growing me professionally each day. I am a deep believer in the power of art education as an amazing equalizer and in the art room as a brave space for people to connect across cultures, languages, academics, socio-economics, and self-expression.

When I’m not precariously balancing on things to hang artwork, I spend my time at home with my outstanding partner, who has a really cool job as a Chemist, and our hilarious, inquisitive, ray-of-sunshine toddler, who brings smiles to our faces every day. Our fierce companion and perfectly-sized pup, Forrest, and sweet forever kitten-faced cat, Tiger Lily, are our fur-ever pets. I adore taking off on cross-country road trips, container gardening year-round, learning about new art techniques, and exploring this magnificent world every chance I get!
