June 23, 2015 – Ep. 9 – ‘Envisioning the Future of Art Education’ with Ian Sands
June 23, 2015
Ian Sands, the inventive, imaginative, and incredibly creative art teacher from Apex High School in North Carolina, joined Andrew and Tim to talk about his transition to choice-based teaching, his love of Zonkeys, why his art supply list comes from the hardware store. He also tries to answer one of the biggest questions out there–what should the future of art education look like?
Ian is unfortunately leaving the AOE writing team, but his series of articles on the future of art education will serve as a springboard for discussion long into the future. Listen to why we need to “break the mold” of 80 year old lesson plans, where our best results come from, and why true assessment involves pushing your students to limits they never thought they could go.
