As an art educator I will conduct myself with a positive attitude as a motivated leader in my field. I will recognize the whole child in each of my students and motive them to explore the world through art. My perfect world is a place where each individual uses the gifts God gave them in a positive way.
My professional mission statement reflects the reasons and dispositions I originally entered into the field of art education with. After a few years of of teaching, I found myself moving farther away from my inspirations as the day to day workload took over. I vowed when I started teaching to never become one of those teachers that complained all the time or accepted mediocre work. Through my leadership role in my district, devotion to the profession and taking time to join and interact with professional organizations, I am continually re – invigorating the basic principles I held as I entered the field of Art Education.
This blog is one step in carrying out my mission of teaching. I hope to not only motivate my own students to explore their world through art, but help motivate other educators to continually advance the field of Art Education.
Not only will this blog help to connect art educators, I hope it will also help me become a stronger educator as I try new things, explore current research in the field and share time-tested strategies, I will continue to nurture the whole person in every child I teach. I firmly believe that well rounded and creative people do, and will continue to, run the world. My goal is to develop and interconnect art with all disciplines to help mold the creative and divergent thinkers that our society will demand in the future.
I aim to be a dedicated leader in the field of art education and in my own district. I value leadership as one of the most important things in my career. In life, you have three choices, you can watch things happen, wonder what just happened, or make things happen. I want to make things happen and inspire others to reach their fullest potential. Each and every one of us has special given talents. We know that strength areas are things that come easily for us, things we do well, and things we enjoy doing. Leadership is one of mine. Without taking this passion and using it, I am not using my talents to better my own life and the lives of others. As research, schools, and student needs evolve, I continually commit to helping teachers get past mediocrity and succeed in a way that best suits their talents and strengths.
My mission of teaching is something that has marinated since I was a very young child. At this point in my life, the layers of these complex flavors are finally emerging to help me focus myself into becoming the very best that I can be in my profession.
