Building Creative Classrooms

In a world where AI is changing everything, creativity isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s the skill that defines us. This course equips art educators with the theory, strategies, and confidence to build classrooms where students are driven by genuine creative ownership, not grades. Walk away with a clear philosophy for teaching creativity on purpose.

As automation reshapes the landscape of learning and work, arts educators are uniquely positioned to cultivate the distinctly human capacities that technology cannot replicate: imagination, empathy, intentionality, and the ability to make meaning. This course invites arts educators to examine and expand their understanding of creativity as a core pedagogical practice and one of the most essential human skills of our time. Drawing on frameworks from Self-Determination Theory, creative process research, and contemporary pedagogy in the arts, participants will explore how to build classroom environments that empower students to take creative risks, make meaningful choices, and connect their work to the world around them. By the end of the course, educators will have developed a deep understanding of why human expression and creative problem-solving matter now more than ever.
