Add Art to your California teaching credential with flexible, online courses
The Art of Education University offers a pathway for credentialed teachers in California to add a Supplementary Authorization in Art or a Single Subject Credential in Art and become eligible to teach the visual arts.

- Are looking for online coursework that is immediately applicable to an art room

Are you already a certified teacher in California?
If you don’t already hold a teaching credential in California, AOEU is not currently able to offer a path to preliminary credentialing or licensure. Refer to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to find a school that offers a CTC-approved credential program, or check out the options here: https://artsedpathways.org/.
AOEU offers over 50 engaging, relevant online courses for art teachers. These courses may satisfy some content area requirements, but do not, on their own, lead to licensure.

Submit your transcripts and documentation to the CTC
Overview
AOEU offers relevant, engaging graduate-level courses that are delivered 100% online and asynchronously. Coursework may be used to meet some requirements for a Supplementary Authorization or a Single Subject Add-On in Visual Arts. The CTC has approved AOEU coursework for many teachers when completed through AOEU’s partner Morningside University. Your enrollment specialist will help you through the process and provide additional documentation the CTC may request.

Recommended Coursework
Complete at least one, 3-credit course from each of the subject areas below, for a minimum of 10 credit hours.

If you are pursuing a single subject credential, an additional course in methodology is required: Managing the Art Room or Methods of Art Education.
