Cassidy Reinken stopped by the show tonight to talk about making art a vital part of a STEAM education. Cassidy has been both a writer and instructor for AOE. Most recently she co-authored the AOE’s Choice Based Art Education Class. Earlier this year, she transitioned from her role as a middle school visual arts specialist to a Magnet Coordinator at Johnson STEAM Academy Magnet School in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
In our episode tonight, Cassidy talks about her transition to a STEAM school, how a shift in educational thinking can revitalize teachers, and how to get an entire school and community “on board” with STEAM education. She also shares some wonderful ideas for incorporating STEAM into your own classroom, and in doing so, why we can’t lose sight of the lessons the arts teach.
