Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the Art Room

According to CDC statistics, approximately one in six children in the U.S. have one or more developmental disabilities or other developmental delays. This course will help art teachers analyze learning and classroom barriers for students with moderate to severe intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), then design strategies for creating meaningful and authentic artmaking experiences connected to students’ interests, strengths, and abilities. Participants will investigate ways to enhance the learning experience for students with IDDs as they build their own personal and professional toolkit for inclusive practices.
