About the Author

Joleen Buttjer

Hello! My name is Joleen Buttjer, and I am honored to be the Team & Culture Manager for AOEU!  When people ask what I do, they are often confused by my title; however, I am happy to explain. Most people recognize my position as “Human Resources,” but our institution does not believe in that terminology. We are a team with a very deliberate culture. It’s what makes our institution so unique and what attracts so many new team members.

I have a diverse background ranging from positions as a public school teacher to a collegiate education coordinator and human resources in public schools. I have held various positions at AOEU, ranging from customer engagement and student services to the registrar, and now am the Team & Culture Manager. Each role I’ve been a part of has centered on supporting people. This is my passion area and where I find my true calling.

Outside of work, I fill my time making cherished memories with my husband Ben, our two sons, Jarett and Jayden, and our daughter, Jenna. We are relishing each moment as they continue to grow into young adults. Other hobbies and interests include reading, taking unplanned day trips to unknown destinations, kayaking, snowmobiling, and spending time with extended family.
