The Art of Education University Introduces New Master’s Degree Specific to the Visual Arts

Art Educators Can Advance Their Careers by Earning a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Degree

OSAGE, Iowa – July 27, 2023 – The Art of Education University (AOEU)—an institution that supports art education at every level—launched its newest online degree program, a Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Instruction to help art teachers design what’s next for art education in the classroom and beyond.

The new MEd degree will be offered alongside AOEU’s first degree program, a Master of Arts in Art Education (MAAE). The MEd degree prepares art teachers for the unique challenges and opportunities in the art education field while helping them learn the best strategies in curriculum design, teaching, and learning.

Coursework in both degree programs is meticulously designed and delivered by top art education faculty with extensive K-12 art room experience. The online degree programs offer flexibility to fit art teachers’ busy schedules with completion in as quickly as two years.

“We want to build on the wildly successful MAAE degree program—currently the most attended art education master’s degree program in the U.S.—with more than 1,200 art teachers pursuing or having completed their master’s degree,” said Heather Crockett, Chief Academic Officer for AOEU. “Our MEd in Curriculum and Instruction will provide a path for art educators to become distinguished leaders and advocates for curricular development and instructional practice of the visual arts.”

AOEU helps art teachers advance their careers and become changemakers in the field of art education by offering students pursuing the MEd degree a choice from three specialization tracks:

  • Arts Integration – Harness the power of art to increase academic performance and empower innovation and creative thinking across disciplines.
  • Inclusive Practices for Visual Arts – Design inclusive and accessible art experiences for diverse learners while also exploring opportunities to enact change to reach and teach all learners.
  • Instructional Leadership in Art Education – Focus on cultivating community connections, applying ethical principles, and building the capacity for influence alongside innovative curriculum design.

The MEd offers a new avenue for art teachers working toward their higher education goals to grow both personally and professionally while making a lasting impact on the field of art education.
